Before the measure
What helps, if you have it.
None of this is required — the form goes through with a name and an email, and the field measure is where the real numbers come from. But when these are in the first message, the proposed measure window and the indicative range usually come back in the same reply instead of after two.
- Rough dimensions. Opening width, ceiling height and depth, to the nearest inch. Even a phone-measured number tells us whether an 84-inch tower and a 12-inch ceiling cabinet fit.
- A photo from the doorway. One wide shot shows the door swing, the light switch and the trim — the three things that most often move a layout.
- What the closet has to hold. Mostly hanging, mostly folded, or shoes. This decides drawer count more than square footage does.
- Your timeline. Build and installation take two to four weeks from an approved drawing. If a date is fixed, say so first.
- A budget band, if you have one. Published installed ranges are in our Atlanta cost guide; telling us the band you are working to lets the first drawing land inside it.

To see the finishes before the measure, visit the workshop on Pacific Drive in Norcross. It is a workshop rather than a retail showroom, so visits are by appointment; call ahead and the finish samples and a sample tower will be out for you.

How much should a custom closet system or built-ins cost in Atlanta?
A reach-in closet in the ClosetX program typically runs $1,200–$3,000 installed, and a walk-in with an island typically runs $4,500–$12,000 installed. The two biggest cost drivers are linear feet of cabinet and how much of the run is drawers rather than shelving. We quote a fixed price from a dimensioned drawing — there are no allowances that move at install.
How long does a custom closet take from order to install?
Two to four weeks from the approved drawing for most projects: the build takes two to four weeks once you sign off the dimensioned drawing, then installation is one to two days on site. The design and quote before that take two to four business days after the field measure. Reach-in closets are usually installed in a single day.
How far from the wall should a closet rod be placed?
Twelve inches from the back wall to the center of the rod, in a 24-inch-deep section. A standard hanger is about 17 inches wide and hangs front to back, so 12 inches centers the garment and leaves clearance at both the wall and the door. Leave at least 2 inches between the rod and the shelf above it, or the hanger hooks will not clear.
What is the smallest size reach-in closet, and can a closet be 30 inches wide?
Twenty-four inches deep by 36 inches wide is the practical floor. The 24 inches is fixed by the hanger, not by preference; the 36 inches is what one hanging section plus a single tower needs. Narrower than that and you lose the tower, which is where most of the storage actually is.
