Twelve inches from the back wall to the center of the rod, in a 24-inch-deep section. A standard hanger is about 17 inches wide and hangs front to back, so 12 inches centers the garment and leaves clearance at both the wall and the door. Leave at least 2 inches between the rod and the shelf above it, or the hanger hooks will not clear.

A reach-in closet in the ClosetX program typically runs $1,200–$3,000 installed, and a walk-in with an island typically runs $4,500–$12,000 installed. The two biggest cost drivers are linear feet of cabinet and how much of the run is drawers rather than shelving. We quote a fixed price from a dimensioned drawing — there are no allowances that move at install.

Two to four weeks from the approved drawing for most projects: the build takes two to four weeks once you sign off the dimensioned drawing, then installation is one to two days on site. The design and quote before that take two to four business days after the field measure. Reach-in closets are usually installed in a single day.

Melamine decors come in a very wide range, because the decor layer is printed before it is fused to the core — solids, wood grains and textures are all made the same way. What decides a project is the range a fabricator stocks and can match across panel, edge banding and fronts. The twelve are where most of the work lands, not a boundary drawn on a map. The workshop is on Pacific Drive in Norcross and the service area is a drive radius around it, so a project a few miles past a listed city is an ordinary conversation rather than an exception. The field measure is the point where that gets settled, before anything is drawn.

Mostly the schedule, but not only. What the housing stock is made of changes the install: plaster and out-of-square openings near an older town center need panels scribed to the wall and fillers planned in advance, while a newer build with square openings and a 96-inch ceiling takes a full-height run with a ceiling cabinet straight off the drawing. The component list is the same in both; the drawing is not.

Three kinds of shop will answer that search and they are not interchangeable. A cabinet maker builds to a drawing in a joinery shop, which suits a one-off library wall and is priced accordingly. A closet company fits out storage from a component program, which is faster, repeatable and cheaper per linear foot. A big-box installer resells a kit with a fitter attached. What separates them in practice is answerable on the phone: ask whether the quote is fixed from a dimensioned field measure or an estimate that can move on install day, whether the crew is employed or subcontracted, and what the panel and edge specification is.
