How Much Does a Custom Closet Cost in Atlanta?

Most closet companies will not publish a number. We will, because the first question every homeowner asks deserves an answer before a salesperson is standing in the bedroom. What drives the price
Two things move a closet quote more than anything else: linear feet of cabinet, and how much of that run is drawers. Everything else — finish color, door style, lighting — changes the number far less than people expect.
- Linear feet. A 6-foot reach-in wall and a 22-foot walk-in perimeter are different projects before a single option is chosen.
- Drawer count. A drawer stack costs several times what the same width of open shelving costs. Soft-close runners, boxes and fronts are all real material.
- Depth. A 24-inch deep tower uses noticeably more panel than a 15-inch one, and needs the floor space to justify it.
- Doors. Leaving a run open is the cheapest finish there is. Slab doors add moderate cost; framed glass adds the most.
- Lighting. LED strip inside a glass tower is a small line item on its own, but it usually arrives attached to a glass tower.
Why a fixed price and not an estimate
We quote from a dimensioned drawing, not from a walkthrough. The measure covers the opening, the ceiling height, the floor fall and every obstruction — outlets, vents, baseboard, a door that swings in. Those are the things that turn an estimate into a change order on install day, so we find them first and price them in.
What a closet costs to run badly
The cheapest closet is the one that gets replaced in four years. Wire shelving sags under folded knits and leaves ridges in everything. Particle-core shelving at 36 inches of unsupported span will bow. A 3/4-inch cabinet-grade melamine shelf with an edge-banded front face holds its line, which is why the whole ClosetX program is built from it.

What that works out to per linear foot
As arithmetic on the ranges above, most ClosetX projects land between roughly $200 and $600 per linear foot of cabinet, installed — open shelving sits at the bottom of that band, drawer-heavy runs at the top. A $1,200–$3,000 reach-in across a typical 6-foot opening is $200–$500 a foot; a $4,500–$12,000 island walk-in across eighteen to twenty-two feet of run works out much the same. We publish the arithmetic because people search for it, not because we price with it: two 6-foot closets can differ by a factor of two once one of them carries a drawer stack, which is exactly what a per-foot rate hides.
Per square foot is the wrong unit entirely. Cabinet runs along walls, so the price tracks wall length, not floor area — a 70-square-foot walk-in and a 100-square-foot walk-in with the same perimeter carry the same cabinet and cost about the same.
What is not in the price
A fixed price is only useful if you know what it excludes. Ours covers the cabinetry, the hardware, the delivery and the installation, including removing and disposing of whatever is in the closet now and patching the anchor holes. It does not cover electrical work beyond connecting the LED fittings we supply, wall repair or painting beyond those patches, flooring, or moving a wall.
That last one comes up more than you would expect. Almost no ClosetX project needs a wall moved — a reach-in rebuilt with a 15-inch tower and two hanging levels usually beats the same closet made physically bigger, and it costs a fraction of the construction.
Where people overspend
- Drawers they will not fill. Drawers are the most expensive linear foot in a closet. Count what actually needs a drawer before specifying a bank of eight.
- 24-inch depth everywhere. Deep towers cost more panel and, on a reach-in wall, create a back zone nobody reaches into.
- Doors on a walk-in. Internal runs inside a walk-in rarely need doors; the room already closes.
- Glass where nothing is displayed. Framed glass is the most expensive front in the program and it only earns that over something worth looking at, lit.
Where the money is well spent
Two upgrades pay back daily rather than visually. The first is soft-close runners on every drawer — a closet drawer is opened and closed more often than almost anything else in a house. The second is going to the ceiling: a 12-inch cabinet above an 84-inch tower is a small line item that converts dead height into the storage that otherwise ends up in an attic.
